Villarreal's Journey to their first European Trophy - By Hardik Pandey

Villarreal CF also known as Yellow Submarine the club founded in 1923 spent much of it's history in lower divisions of Spanish football from 1929 -1998. But in 1998 they played their La Liga debut match against European champions Real Madrid. Villarreal also competed in UEFA Intertoto cup in 2002 but lost in Final. In 2003 Villarreal played UEFA cup but again lost in Semi finals but won UEFA Intertoto cup. In 2004 they won Intertoto Cup beating Atletico Madrid, in this season Villarreal finished 3rd in La Liga earning direct qualification in their 1st Champion's League(2005-2006).Thanks to Diego Forlán Pichichi winning la liga season. If you are still reading you should be proud of this team. How much effort they've done to reach and play their 1st Champion's League match.



Could you imagine they go undefeated in their group stage drawing both games against Manchester United they Won against Rangers of Scotland in round of 16 on away goals(3-3) In quarters they again won against Inter on away goals and reached Semi finals of Champion's league. Such a fairytale run for such a team like Villarreal. But this run came to an end against Wenger's Arsenal (1-0)agg. This was their first year in the competition and they played very well. In La Liga their best performance came in (2007-2008) where they were runners up, they got relegated in 2012 from La Liga. After so many ups and downs comes 2021 UEFA Europa League where Villarreal Beat Manchester United to their "First major continental trophy" after 98 years Since the club was formed.
